PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
As a Housing Counselor, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional financial counseling and coaching services to our clients. Your responsibilities will span a broad spectrum of activities, all designed to empower individuals in various crucial areas. These include foreclosure and eviction prevention/intervention, credit building, savings accumulation, debt reduction, assisting with first-time homeownership, as well as providing comprehensive credit counseling services. Moreover, you will also be entrusted with important administrative duties, ensuring the smooth operation of our counseling services. By offering comprehensive support across these essential domains, you will contribute significantly to the well-being and financial stability of our clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
- Conducting personalized, one-on-one housing counseling sessions with clients, covering essential topics such as eviction prevention, foreclosure prevention, pre-purchase counseling, post-purchase guidance, and financial literacy education.
- Organizing and facilitating group education workshops focused on the aforementioned subjects, ensuring the delivery of comprehensive information to a wider audience.
- Providing exceptional customer service to clients and potential clients, offering assistance, guidance, and triaging as necessary to address their housing and financial concerns.
- Undertaking outreach efforts and actively recruiting participants for housing and financial services programs, ensuring maximum accessibility and inclusivity.
- Skillfully utilizing the agency’s client management system to maintain accurate and up-to-date client files, adhering to all relevant laws and regulations set forth by the governing organizations; HUD.
- Preparing and delivering pertinent data for both internal and external reporting requirements, meeting the needs of funders and other stakeholders, and providing valuable insights into program effectiveness.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
Our ideal candidate will be a dedicated and self-motivated individual who has many of the following skills and experiences, including:
- Knowledge of mortgage and home-buying processes.
- A highly motivated self-starter with exceptional project management, facilitation, and organizational skills.
- Three to five years of experience in mortgages, financial, and/or human services.
- An associate’s or bachelor’s degree is preferred, showcasing a commitment to continued education and professional development.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively engage with individuals and groups, functioning cohesively within a small staff team.
- The ability to adapt and thrive amidst agency growth and program development, displaying flexibility and a proactive approach to change.
- Experience maintaining meticulous, timely, and accurate records and data files, ensuring the highest level of professionalism and compliance.
- Proficiency in computer software, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, enabling efficient documentation, analysis, and presentation of information.
- Flexibility to work some evenings, accommodating the scheduling needs of clients and workshops.
- Bilingual fluency in English and another language is a plus, facilitating effective communication and expanding accessibility to a broader range of clients.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation, enabling travel for agency-related requirements (with travel expenses being reimbursable), and ensuring the ability to fulfill all job responsibilities effectively.
PRIMARY TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Secure and/or maintain individual Credit Counseling Certification through the National Association of Certified Credit Counselors (NACCC).
**Complete NACCC certification within four weeks of employment start date. - Secure and/or maintain individual U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Housing Counselor Certification.
**Complete HUD certification within three months of employment start date.
The above listed training requirements do not fully meet the standards for becoming a HUD Certified Housing Counselor. Just like in any other professional occupation, continuing education plays a vital role in the Housing Counseling industry. In 2021, Paula was named Executive Director of Credit Counseling Center. She joined the organization in 2008 as a Credit Counselor and was quickly promoted to Director of Housing Counseling in 2009. Paula is a firm believer that each client is a representation of a family whose lives, financial challenges, and needs are important.
She developed and still leads the Center’s Foreclosure Prevention program; and has partnered with the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas Foreclosure Diversion Program. Her keen focus on making a positive impact in the community has generated numerous program collaborations with the United Way of Bucks County and a multitude of social service organizations in the region.
Previously, Paula served 21 on Active Duty in the US Air Force. Initially serving as a combat photographer and finishing the second half of her career as a recruiter, leading to the position of Flight Chief. Highly decorated, she has received awards from the Air Force and the Department of Defense.
An active leader in the Bucks County community, Paula donates her time annually as a board member for the annual Congressional Service Academy Nomination Interviews under the office of Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick. She is an active Chamber member in Lower Bucks, BucksMont, and Upper Bucks, advocates for financial literacy education opportunities at venues servicing low/moderate income consumers and senior citizen organizations.
